Extra Information

Disclaimer: TLOU2 uses PSSR1 natively, so this page still displays PSSR1 metrics. However, as of September 26, the 'Enhance PSSR Image Quality' toggle (which forces PSSR2 upscaling) is activated by default. PSSR2 was made the default because it resolves a sharper, more stable image and removes PSSR1's film grain-like noise. Digital Foundry also reviewed TLOU2 with PSSR2 and confirmed these improvements (especially in foliage), so PSSR2 is recommended.

The fidelity and performance modes are the same as on base PS5, but with VRR enabled, there's usually around a 25fps advantage on Pro. PSSR1 in Pro mode looks much sharper (especially foliage) than performance mode's TAA (improved further with PSSR2). There's also less noise/anti-aliasing in motion and improved SSR compared to legacy modes (again, better with PSSR2), but fidelity mode is still very close in image quality and some reflections can even look better. Finally, PSSR1 beats FSR in the PC version and comes very close to DLSS.
