Disclaimer: As a whitelisted game, Silent Hill 2 uses PSSR2 regardless of whether the 'Enhance PSSR Image Quality' toggle is on/off in the PS5 system settings. You can therefore safely disregard any Pro analysis conducted before March 2026 (or at least hasn't been updated to include PSSR2 testing), as this PSSR1-centered performance discussion no longer applies.
With PSSR2, Pro's quality mode has fixed/significantly improved all the issues that were present in the pre March-2026 PSSR1 version. This includes an overall sharper, more stable image that removes PSSR1's film grain-like noise and RT flickering/shimmering. Pro quality mode also uses superior hardware-based RT (clearer, more accurate/full reflections etc) compared to the software-based RT in both base PS5 modes/Pro performance mode. With a stable, more 4K-like image and better RT, Pro quality mode now finally looks better than the base PS5, which wasn't the case with PSSR1.
Both Pro modes also hit their target framerate more often than their base PS5 equivalent and Pro performance mode has a higher base resolution. Hopefully, Bloober updates SH2 to also include PSSR2 in the performance mode. Though it's unlikely given that they never fixed PSSR1's issues themselves.
