Disclaimer: As PoE2 isn't whitelisted by Sony, it uses PSSR1 by default, so this page still displays PSSR1 metrics. While PSSR2 hasn't been tested with PoE2 yet, Mark Cerny (PS5 architect) said Sony's broader testing found no issues in most titles. Only a few suffered from instability in sub-pixel light sources, with 99%+ of the game still improved. Community PSSR2 testing supports this, where at the very least, games are more stable, sharper, and remove PSSR1's film grain-like noise. Therefore, enable PSSR2 by activating 'Enhance PSSR Image Quality' in PS5 system settings, and only revert back if there are major issues.
With 4 upscalers that each have multiple quality options within them, a sharpness slider, different lighting toggles, multiple refresh rate options (including 30/40fps), and even experimental options like dynamic culling, PoE2 easily has the most configurations of a PS5 Pro game. Instead of listing 50+ modes, the 2 above represent what the general PoE2 community recommend depending on your framerate target. Performance mode can dip in heavy fights, but should stay above 60fps most of the time.
NIS is sharper and more performant that PSSR, but less stable in motion and can look too sharp. Though PSSR's softness results in a loss of texture detail. If you want to maximize frames, ensure lighting is set to just 'shadows' instead of 'shadows + GI'. Dynamic culling is also not recommended as it can cause severe graphical issues.
