Disclaimer: As MGS3 isn't whitelisted by Sony, it uses PSSR1 by default, so this page still displays PSSR1 metrics. While PSSR2 hasn't been tested with MGS3 yet, Mark Cerny (PS5 architect) said Sony's broader testing found no issues in most titles. Only a few suffered from instability in sub-pixel light sources, with 99%+ of the game still improved. Community PSSR2 testing supports this, where at the very least, games are more stable, sharper, and remove PSSR1's film grain-like noise. Therefore, enable PSSR2 by activating 'Enhance PSSR Image Quality' in PS5 system settings, and only revert back if there are major issues.
Pro's modes have the improved object LODs/shadows/GI in base PS5's unevenly paced 30fps quality mode (to different extents), while targeting 60fps. Patch 1.21 ensures a somewhat stable framerate within the VRR window providing you maintain stealth (dips to as low as 35fps in gunfights due to enemy AI/CPU limits). In stills, Pro is blurrier than even base PS5 performance mode (720p-1080p DRS to 4K FSR) due to low DRS/PSSR, let alone base PS5 quality mode's 1080p-1584p DRS.
However, PSSR has less GI flickering, less artifacting in hair/foliage, reduced ghosting/breakup and sharper motion clarity, making it the better upscaler overall. Both Pro modes also have a more stable framerate than base PS5 performance mode, though cutscenes are an unstable 60fps everywhere.
