Quality mode's framerate has rare, short-lived 1-2fps dips. Performance mode still maintains 60fps most of the time, but can dip more often in heavy scenes and to as low as 50fps (which is still within VRR). Base PS5 has the same 2 modes, with similar framerate performance and higher graphics presets in quality mode. However, the internal resolution is lower (commonly 1080p in quality mode and 720p-1080p DRS in performance mode) before upscaling to 4K, resulting in a noticeably softer image compared to the same mode on Pro.
