RT Types: Unreal Engine 5 hardware-based Lumen reflections and global illumination
Highest Resolution: 4K PSSR2
Highest FPS: 60fps
quality: 1728p-4K DRS upscaled to 4K PSSR2/TSR at a locked, but unevenly paced 30fps.
balanced: Typical 1440p DRS to 4K PSSR2/TSR at a locked, but unevenly paced 40fps.
performance: 864p-1440p DRS (usually in higher res bound) to 4K PSSR2/TSR at a mostly stable 60fps (approx dips to 51fps with PSSR2, 55fps with TSR).
While Pro can upscale via PSSR2 and TSR, PSSR2 resolves a far sharper, stable, and less noisy image. TSR is only viable in performance mode, as framerate dips are slightly less drastic. Quality and balanced modes don't dip, but uneven frame pacing results in an even more juddery image than usual for these modes.
Base PS5 uses software-based Lumen, resulting in less accurate/detailed RT, and more instability (flickering GI and shimmering reflections) compared to Pro's superior hardware-based solution - especially in its performance mode due to lower quality Lumen. Base PS5 also only upscales via TSR, and at lower internal resolutions (usually 864p in performance, 1152p in balanced, and 1440p in quality mode). With hardware RT, PSSR2 upscaling, and higher res, equivalent modes look vastly superior on Pro, at similar framerate stability.
